How to Use StoryMakers at Home

This season, many kids may be doing church from home, but that doesn’t mean kid’s ministry has to stop! With StoryMakers, churches can help kids keep growing in their faith this Fall. Follow along as we unpack how church can be delivered to your kids and for our top tips on how to keep kids engaged from home. We’ve watched churches around the country adapt StoryMakers for at-home Sunday school. Here’s how they’re doing it:

Order your kits

We offer individual kits, bulk packages, and custom quantities to fit your church. Select the zine you want to use, or subscribe for curriculum to cover your entire children’s ministry year, September - July. Order one zine per child, a guidebook for each leader (or parent), and pick from our enriching additional resources. If you have questions or want to place a custom order, reach out to us at info@storymakersnyc.com.

Make it Personal

When you can’t minister to kids in person, a personal touch with the kit can go along way. Personalize your family kits with a fun greeting or additional instructions. You can use our free stationery set - download here.

Pack each zine kit with crafty goodies

Assemble the kits for each family. Each zine you send will be a special gift for a child - a space where they can record their thoughts, feelings, fears, and dreams. And since our beautiful materials are designed to last, kids can returns to these zines in years to come and remember God’s faithfulness to them during a crazy year!

Don’t forget to include craft supplies. We recommend adding some of the tools needed for the zine’s creative activities: pastels, colored pencils, glue, tissue paper, and flashlights.

Mail or deliver your kits

Package each kit in a fun and unique way and send off a special package for each kid!

Once you’ve sent off your StoryMakers kits, it’s time to get started with the adventure. Our zines are simple-to-use and adaptable, so you can structure Sunday school at home however works best for your church and families. Set up a Zoom class or let kids go through at their own pace with help from their parents. However you choose to structure kid’s spiritual formation at home, here are our tips for keeping kids engaged:

Use our free videos

We’ve created a free video series for each lesson of our zines, available on our website. These videos are a great tool for creating an online classroom. Plus, they take the burden off parents to facilitate Sunday school on their own. Use these videos in conjunction with your own online programming or use them independently - whatever works best for you!

Make it tactile

StoryMakers is perfect for virtual Sunday school because each lesson includes a hands-on activity that gets kids away from the screen and engaging with Scripture. Make sure families have access to craft supplies and can help guide kids through these creative exercises!

Include the whole family

StoryMakers offers families the opportunity to explore the great story of Scripture together. Invite siblings and parents into the fun - whether that’s with a family production of the shadow puppet play included with each adventure, a dramatic group reading of the Bible passage each week, or a family craft session. StoryMakers at home is an excellent time for parents and children to connect and explore God’s love together.
